FAQs

Are you covered by insurance?

Several insurance companies provide coverage for Nutritionists or Nutritional Counselling, however it depends on your employer’s benefit package. Some benefits packages also include a Health Spending Account to cover health-related expenses, such as nutritional counselling. Be sure to check with your provider to see what coverage you have.

Are the meetings virtual or in-person?

For those in the Greater Toronto Area, I offer in-person meetings at Power Yoga Canada Mississauga in Clarkson village. I am currently not offering virtual sessions at this time.

What’s the difference between a holistic nutritionist and a dietician?

While both nutritionists and dieticians provide nutritional advice to clients, there are some big differences. Holistic nutritionists look at the body as a whole to identify the root cause that may be leading to a client’s particular health concern. We look at using food, exercise and other lifestyle factors such as stress-management techniques as tools to create a sense of balance in the body. We understand that when the body is in balance, the symptoms subside.

A dietician on the other hand is often found working in public institutions such as hospitals and doctor’s offices. They often provide diet advice after the client has been diagnosed with a particular disease by a medical doctor. In general, dieticians follow food and nutrition guidelines as set out by the government, whereas nutritionists use a more personalized approach.

If you are looking to hire a nutritionist, make sure you do your research. Check out their background and credentials. Look to see what schools they attended and if they are a member of a reputable professional organization. For example, check out my background here!
